The Racqpad
Rod Laver’s former condo got a stunning makeover into a Postmodern Paradise with a retro-chic aesthetic.
Palm Desert, CA
Project Summary
The 1973 condo, with its dated travertine floors, dark countertops, and fluorescent lighting, was begging for a makeover. The drab, outdated condo was a perfect canvas for Studio Garrison to inject a colorful and patterned design.
Local procurement of unique and relevant furniture from the late 70s and early 80s enabled Studio Garrison to create a retro-chic aesthetic that captures the contrast between old and new. Studio Garrison designed and commissioned an artist to paint a mural featuring dynamic shapes and colors that contrast with the neutral furniture, while also using pink tiles in the primary shower to harken back to the 70s. The suite offers a serene space for guests to relax, while also hiding ingenious features that transform the room into a workspace, such as a panel that reveals a wall-mounted monitor. Details such as these have updated and elevated this condo into a vibrant oasis in the desert.
